The GIRLS of GIRL, episode 6: Shelby Leshine, Head GIRL.

Shelby Leshine is, by all accounts, a force of nature. Or possibly a force of nurture. She is a Grey Room founding member and a first time Grey Room director. You would have seen her last (had you been paying attention) in 50 Shades of Grey Room – An Evening of Sketchy Comedy, where she told a story about jumping out of her apartment window because of a woman with a survey. This is her first time directing with Grey Room. She can sing and rap the entirety of “Hailie’s Song”. We don’t have to tell you who that’s by.

1. What’s your name?
Shelby Leshine

2. What’s your role?

3. What’s your favorite thing about girls?
When even a stranger (who’s a girl) has your back in a sticky situation (because you’re a girl)

4. What’s your least favorite thing about girls?
When your friend (who’s a girl) doesn’t have your back in a sticky situation (even though you’re a girl)

5. What is your secret awesome talent?
I can play my nose. Like, it sounds like a trumpet or something. Paige can attest to it.

6. What’s your favorite thing about this play?
That it’s all about human connection.

7. What’s your desert island food?
Hummus. Or guacamole. I’ll dip tree branches in that stuff I don’t care.

8. Would you rather fight one horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?
100 duck sized horses – I’m laughing just imagining it so I’m gonna assume I’d be a YouTube star and finally be a celebrity. Finally.

For the record, at the end of the journey, the final score on the duck-horse question is this:

Here’s the deal: This play won’t help you learn how to defend yourself against either of these foes. But it’s absolutely going to help you learn about what it is to grow up as a girl today, and how to claim your voice by sharing your story. And if you haven’t bought tickets yet, they’re right over here. Come to the talkback! Meet the stars of the GIRLS of GIRL! Get a drink with us later, maybe!

I could go on all day. Buy your tickets. #shareyourstory.
